January 14th is a date which has always held great meaning for the Congregation of Divine Providence as it was on this day in 1762 that the Congregation was founded by Jean Martin Moye, a French priest. The community celebration this year added new significance for the date as the Sisters missioned Sr. Mary Jennings for ministry in Ecuador.
The evening was both prayerful and festive as sisters, associates, family members and friends gathered in the convent chapel for the missioning service. In procession, former CDP missionaries from Ghana, Ecuador and Madagascar preceeded Sr. Mary down the aisle along with sisters carrying the Congregational Constitutions, Directory, an Ecuadorian scarf and candles representing the four fundamental virtues practiced by the sisters: Poverty, Simplicity, Charity and Abandonment to Divine Providence. Within the service, Sr. Fran Moore, Provincial, on behalf of Sr. Pascale Kubler, Superior General, called forth Mary and anointed her as a missionary, sending her to her new home and ministry in Ecuador with the assurance of the love, support and prayers of her CDP sisters and everyone present at the ceremony. A festival celebration followed in the convent dining room.
