Community Life

The Congregation of Divine Providence is an international religious community of approximately 600 sisters. We minister in nine countries throughout the world: Belgium, Ecuador, France, Poland, Romania, the Islands of the Grand Comores, Madagascar, Mali and the United States. A community of 133 members comprise the American Province which was founded in 1889 by a group of pioneering French women in Newport, Kentucky, along the Ohio River.

A strong sense of community distinguishes our congregation. St. Anne Convent in Melbourne, Kentucky, now serves as the spiritual gathering place for liturgies, retreats and celebrations when the sisters come “home.” However, our daily lives are rooted in smaller faith communities located where our sisters minister to women, children, and those in need. In our living and in our varied ministries, we strive to be signs of God’s everlasting and faithful love – God-Providence.
